WEIL Process - Sedimentation
In sedimentation systems, water constituents are separated by settling. Sedimentation is based on the fact that the dispersed water constituent has a greater density than the water and sinks under the influence of gravitational force.
If the water constituents are present in colloidal or finely suspended form, flocculants are usually added to improve sedimentation and reduce the time the water spends in the settling system. The sedimentation tanks can be rectangular or round and have horizontal or vertical flow. It is also possible to install parallel plates, lamellas, pipes or corrugated plates.
