Cause

The lighthouse in the Baltic Sea serves as a pilot station and is staffed around the clock. Previously, tankers were used for the drinking water supply, but due to the high costs and effort involved, an alternative had to be found. WEIL Wasseraufbereitung developed a process consisting of pre- and post-treatment components for cost-effective and efficient seawater desalination.

The highly fluctuating salinity of the Baltic Sea, depending on the season, was particularly challenging. At the heart of the seawater treatment system is a reverse osmosis system with high-retention seawater reverse osmosis membranes with a capacity of up to 2 m³/d.
